Dear Boise School District Parent/Guardian & Staff Member:

The Boise School District is making significant progress toward final recommendations on how best we can all move forward with a plan that will not only allow us to return safely to five-day-a-week in-person learning, but also maintain consistency for the rest of the school year. The board has called a special board meeting on Thursday, February 18th to consider these recommendations.

As we heard Monday night from Central District Health (CDH), Dr. Kenny Bramwell (System Medical Director, St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital) and Dr. Mark Nassir (President, Saint Alphonsus Medical Group), although cases are currently declining, community spread in Ada County remains high. We are also approximately three weeks away from most of our staff being immunized.

Our exploratory committee, operating from a shared set of interests and consisting of parents, teachers, principals, health services professionals and District administrators, has done foundational work in the critical areas of logistics, data gathering and stakeholder input. Through this process, coupled with board oversight and administrative direction, we will develop the thoughtful, fact-based and inclusive recommendations our students, staff and community deserve.

We understand our students, families and staff have all experienced the stress of the pandemic in different ways. We are committed to ensuring that as many voices as possible are heard and creating spaces where hard questions are asked and tough conversations can take place. In times like these, our values of respect, dignity, honesty, responsibility and teamwork serve us well.
